Ollie We are affiliated to the British Kite Surfing Association and abide by the standards laid down by the BKSA club guidelines. Portland Harbour is controlled by Portland Port Ltd and they have stipulated that no kite surfing can be conducted by non club members. Fortunately you can join on a daily basis if you fancy kiting with us! Check out our "Joining us" section (left) for details on types of membership available.
Portland Harbour is a huge expanse of man made flat water that started life harbouring the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic war. To the east is a man made rock wall constructed by prison labour. To the west lay Chesil Beach, a natural barrier made of millions of pebbles. The prevailing wind is south west so the area is predominantly offshore. At the right tide the harbour is very shallow and the ideal spot to learn kite surfing from. With mirror smooth water, constant winds and a friendly bunch what else is there?
